The 44th anniversary of the Faculty of Health Studies

The UNSA Faculty of Health Studies in cooperation with the Faculty of Health Studies Students Association “FLORS”, organized the celebration of its 44th anniversary on 18 December 2017. The ceremony was held in the UNSA Administrative Office and it served for the departure of Prof. Dr. Dijana Avdić and for inauguration of Prof. Dr. Fatima Jusupović, who officially took over Dean Office on 19 December.

On behalf of University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrjelj, Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, the Vice-Chancellor for Teaching and Student Affairs addressed the attendees and congratulated on this important anniversary.

At the ceremony,  Prof. Dr. Dijana Avdić presented the activities realized in the previous mandate period, reminded of the historical development of the Faculty, and highlighted the results. Among other things, an impressive number of 5898 graduates, 57 masters of health sciences, who completed pre-Bologna post-graduate education, and 347 masters of profession who completed the second cycle of studies.

In order to achieve significant results, as Professor Avdić stated, it was necessary to keep everything that was done well and follow good examples  and  remove according to international standards everything that constitutes an obstacle for the Faculty’s development, while protecting the academic freedoms and interests of the University of Sarajevo in whole.

The Higher Medical School was founded in 1973 as a two-year course at the Faculty of Medicine in Sarajevo. It was transformed into a three-year study in 1990, and in 1999 renamed Higher School of Medicine. In the Faculty of Health Studies in Sarajevo, with four-year duration, the High Medical School was renamed in 2008. During its existence, the Faculty of Health Studies as an integral part of the University of Sarajevo has undergone a series of development phases in which organizational changes, revised, updated and innovated curricula were revised.
