The promotion of 20th generation of ERMA graduates
25 students from the 20th generation of the European Regional Master's Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in Southeast Europe (ERMA) were promoted today in Sarajevo.
The event taking place at the University of Sarajevo Ceremonial Hall was attended by local and foreign diplomats, university professors, ERMA staff and ERMA students, all according to the current epidemiological measures.
To date, around 600 students have completed the ERMA study, mostly from the Southeast Europe, European Union and beyond. Students receive double degree from the University of Sarajevo and the University of Bologna.
The ceremony was opened by a welcome address delivered by the University of Sarajevo Vice-rector for International Relations, Prof. Enita Nakaš. The keynote speech in the online format was delivered by Dunja Mijatović, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights. Additionally, the Ceremony was addressed by Gianluca Vannini Head of Operations, Section Social Development, Civil Society and Cross Border Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, who also joined online, and Lorenzo Donatelli, First Secretary of the Embassy of the Republic of Italy in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Representative of the 2020/2021 generation, Una Regoje also shared her experience on behalf of her group. Marjan Icoski addressed the audience as an Alumni Network of ERMA Studies (EAN) representative, whereas Study Co-Directors, Prof. Marco Borraccetti and Prof. Asim Mujkić presented the report for 2020/2021 and announced students whose theses were selected as the best for this academic year, as well as other graduation awards. Giulia Russo was the best student in 2020/2021. Her thesis was also chosen to be published in the yearly ERMA booklet of best theses, and she was chosen for a 6 month long Global Campus of Human Rights (GC) internship. The theses of students Amar Karađuz, Nejira Pašić, and Carolina Muzzilo were also chosen for publication. Additionally, the thesis of Ana Janković was chosen to be published in the GC repository.
The ERMA program is a joint effort of several universities in Southeast Europe and the European Union. Since 2000, it has been funded by the European Union and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the AICS Agency. For eight years, the EU funding has been provided through the Global Campus of Human Rights.
