Scientists from the UNSA Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Published Two Papers in the Prestigious Journal

Naučnici sa Veterinarskog fakulteta UNSA objavili dva naučna pregledna rada u prestižnom časopisu Parasites & Vectors

Scientists from the UNSA Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, in collaboration with colleagues from Western Balkan countries, have published two significant review articles in the prestigious journal Parasites & Vectors (IF 3.0 for 2023, Q1 in the category of tropical medicine). These papers represent the first comprehensive review of existing research on ticks and tick-borne pathogens in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the broader region.

The first article, “Ixodid ticks and zoonotic tick-borne pathogens of the Western Balkans,” focuses on the zoonotic pathogens transmitted by ticks, underscoring their importance for veterinary and public health while also encompassing the first historical data on these diseases and tick species in the region. The second article, “Non-zoonotic tick-borne pathogens in the Western Balkans,” addresses non-zoonotic pathogens, providing essential information for further research and the enhancement of control strategies.

Given the high pathogenicity and public health significance of these diseases, the articles contribute valuable insights to the understanding of the epidemiology and control of tick-borne infections in the region. Concurrently, the systematization of data regarding tick-borne diseases in animals and humans offers a substantial global contribution to veterinary and public health.
