The Language Institute, University of Sarajevo organized a public forum on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day in Potočari
An open lecture on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day was held on 21 February 2022 in Potočari (Srebrenica).
Elementary school students from Srebrenica and Potočari, their teachers, and, above all, the Mother of Srebrenica, today attended a public forum on the occasion of the International Mother Language Day with associates of the Language Institute, University of Sarajevo and hosted by the International Solidarity Forum - EMMAUS (Potočari).
The special importance of caring for the social aspect of language issues and the status of the mother tongue in education, media and wider social administration was pointed out, and the principles of freedom and tolerance, non-discrimination and the natural right to tradition were especially emphasized.
In addition to introducing students to the richness of Bosnian literacy, the need for a more detailed approach to certain issues of cultural heritage and linguistic tradition was pointed out, especially in the context of representation in curricula, but also the need for additional education and learning about themselves.
The desire to pay more detailed attention to the fight against discrimination in education based on language on a broader level and to pay more attention to the status issues of the mother tongue in our society on all issues relevant to the wider and wider community is especially expressed.
