A rich National Day of Library Awareness in BiH program presented

A press conference marking the National Day of Library Awareness in BiH was held on 26 October 2021 at the University of Sarajevo Rectorate.

At the press conference spoke Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, University of Sarajevo Vice Rector for Quality and M.Sc. Nadina Grebović-Lendo, Director of the Library of the University of Sarajevo and Coordinator of the Action Group of the National Day of Awareness of Libraries in BiH on behalf of the University of Sarajevo.

The National Library Awareness Day in BiH under the motto “Library - a meeting place” will be marked on 29 October and the goal is to remind the importance of library participation in building a knowledge society. Partners in this event are: University of Sarajevo, University of Mostar and Cantonal and University Library of Bihać.

Libraries (public, academic, school, special) - partners from Bosnia and Herzegovina will participate in the promotion of their services on 29 October 2021 offering citizens various educational content (promotions, poetry evenings, round tables, exhibitions, etc.). This year's motto is: Library - a meeting place. The partner libraries of the University of Sarajevo will mark the National Library Awareness Day in BiH 2021 with more than 50 different activities.

In presenting the program, M.Sc. Grebović-Lendo pointed out that the National Day at the University of Sarajevo will begin with a webinar intended for librarians “Ideas for educational work with children and youth in the digital environment.” The lecturers at this webinar are Doz. Dr. Emina Dedić Bukvić from the Department of Pedagogy, Faculty of Philosophy, UNSA and M.Sc. Mirela Šuman. In the introductory part of the webinar, participants will have the opportunity to hear the presentation of M.Sc. Arijana Alispahić from the “Sokolje” Elementary School and Ajdina Begić from the “Ćamil Sijarić” Wlementary School whose work with children and youth in the digital environment left results in the form of materials that can be a good support and inspiration for new activities, “said M.Sc. Grebović-Lendo. She also mentioned that a conference “The role of the university library in increasing the visibility of scientific papers” will be held in the afternoon. The first part of the conference is reserved for the promotion of the OJS (Open Journal System) platform on which the magazine “Pregled” was published, which this year celebrates 111 years of publication and whose publisher has been the University of Sarajevo since 1967. After the promotion, attendees will have the opportunity to see an exhibition dedicated to the publishing activities of the University of Sarajevo, which was organized by the Publishing Service of the Rectorate. The second part of the conference is reserved for presentations on the topic of increasing the visibility of scientific papers where, in addition to professors from the University of Sarajevo, among whom are Prof. Dr. Dušanka Bošković, Prof. Dr. Senada Dizdar and Prof. Dr. Razija Mešević, Doz. Dr. Franjo Pehar from the University of Zadar will present the Morepress project of the University of Zadar.

“Science cannot do without a library,” said Vice-Rector for Quality Bošković, adding that the motto Library - a meeting place, under which the National Library Awareness Day in BiH is celebrated this year, is especially important during the pandemic because it wants to show that contacts and meetings should not stop, but that the online space provides the opportunity to connect with colleagues and like-minded people around the world.

“The library is a responsible place” said Vice-Rector Bošković, talking about a webinar for librarians entitled Ideas for educational work with children and youth in the digital environment, and stressed the importance of advising the role of the university library in increasing the visibility of scientific papers. “This event is a turning point because it is not a topic we talked about a lot, and we expect that such thoughts about the research will have a lot of impact on improving visibility, because we work much more in the field of research than the public knows,” said Vice-Rector Bošković.
