Contract signed to help protect a unique natural whole in this part of Europe - Una National Park in Bosnia and Herzegovina
An agreement on teaching, scientific and professional development cooperation was signed between the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Sarajevo and PE National Park "Una" d.o.o. Bihać. Thus, this natural whole will be additionally helped by domestic scientists, in order to further preserve it.
Today, Dean Prof. Dr. Muhamed Smajlović on behalf of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo and the director of the PE National Park "Una" d.o.o. - Amarildo Mulić, signed a contract by which the National Park "Una" will receive teaching, scientific and professional assistance from a scientific research institution. The signing of the contract was attended by the Vice Dean for Finance, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Omeragić, Doz. Dr. Vedad Škapur from the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences and Amir Beganović, from the Una National Park.
The main areas of cooperation within this agreement in the field of veterinary medicine, animal protection and welfare, higher education and scientific research are: education of students of the Faculty and conducting practical classes in the Una National Park, preparation of project proposals and joint participation in national and international competitions, as well as scientific research work.
This contract envisages examination and determination of the health status of animals and, if necessary, diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic procedures on animals that live in the area of the park "Una". Also, this agreement will provide access to the area of the National Park "Una" to students, teachers and associates of the Faculty in accordance with the curriculum, all in order to improve the quality of the teaching process of veterinary medicine.
On the other hand, in order to implement this contract, the Faculty undertakes to perform diagnostic, preventive and therapeutic procedures for the Park in accordance with the needs.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo will also make available in the implementation of project activities expertise and diagnostic laboratories, especially expertise, knowledge and skills in the field of conservation of wild animal species living in the Una National Park.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Sarajevo is one of the oldest scientific research institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which has inherited this epithet since 1949 and thus in its mission and vision is ideologically committed to the preservation of animal species in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Such an agreement represents not only a stronger commitment to preserving the biological diversity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also a desire to preserve the natural environment of this and other entities provided by Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Preserving the values of the National Park "Una" is more than important for the biological diversity of this part of BiH, because it is one of the four national parks in Bosnia and Herzegovina, said Dean Smajlović. He pointed out his professional satisfaction, but also the commitment of the UNSA Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in strengthening relations with institutions such as JP National Park "Una" d.o.o. Bihać.
