Ambassador of Greece visited the National and University Library of BiH
On 6 February 2020, H. E. Dimitrios Papandreou, the newly appointed Ambassador of Greece to Bosnia and Herzegovina visited the National and University Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The distinguished guest was welcomed by Dr. Ismet Ovčina, Director of NUBBiH.
Dr. Ovčina informed H. E. Papandreou on the current status at NUBBiH, emphasizing the particularly successful cooperation with the National Library of Greece with which NUBBiH has a Cooperation Agreement.
On this occasion, Dr. Ovčina presented to Ambassador Papandreou the Department of Special Collections of NUBBiH, which preserves the invaluable cultural and historical heritage of our country, as well as the cultural and historical heritage of the world. He was particularly attracted to the Greek-language manuscript and to a Hebrew-language publication in Thessaloniki, 1564. This publication is very rare and researchers believe that there are only 5-6 copies stored in the world.
H. E. Ambassador Papandreou donated two issues to the Library Fund. These books showcase the richness of Greece in art, and users will be able to read the poetry of eight Greek poets and learn more about Greek sculptor Praxiteles.
Dr. Ovčina donated several issues of NUBBiH to Mr. Ambassador, including the Bosniaca journal of the National and University Libraries of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the NUBBiH Gazette.
The mutual desire for an appropriate exhibition to display the culture and cooperation of our two countries was emphasized in the near future.
