On Friday, 19 April 2019, a guest lecturer Dr. Med. Vet. Aida Šarić held a lecture on the topic of regulation and good practice of treatment of experimental animals in accordance with the EU Directive 2010/63.
Dr. Šarić is an expert with many years of experience in evaluating projects involving experiments on animals, as well as the education of researchers and collaborators for working with experimental animals at the Department of Biomedical Research at the Medical University in Graz, Austria. Bearing in mind that this legislation in BiH has not yet been harmonized with the requirements of the European Union, it is very important to raise awareness in this way about the importance of this topic and the need for further activities in BiH.
On behalf of the University of Sarajevo, the attendees were greeted by Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, and in front of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Vice-Dean for International Cooperation Doz. Dr. Tamer Bego. It is our great pleasure to point out that, besides the academic staff of the University of Sarajevo's organizational units, the State Veterinary Inspector for Animal Welfare was also present at the lecture - Inga Dujmović, Dr. Vet. Med. Such encounters are certainly a true example of the cooperation of the scientific community and the competent governmental bodies, which ultimately initiates the development of society. In this way, the University of Sarajevo once again demonstrated its commitment to achieving this important social role.
Dr. Šarić’s visit was initiated by the invitation from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Sarajevo at the proposal of Prof. Dr. Jasmina Đeđibegović, and implemented through a joint project “Diaspora for Development” - D4D of the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of BiH (MLJPI) and the Government of Switzerland, in partnership with UNDP BiH and IOM BiH.
