Delegation of Libya’s General Directorate of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs visits the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, UNSA
A high-level delegation from Libya’s General Directorate of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, led by its President, Sheikh Prof. Dr. Muhamed Ahmed al-Abbani, visited the Faculty of Islamic Sciences at the University of Sarajevo on 02/09/2026. The delegation included representatives of the Libyan Mufti’s Office, the General Directorate of Awqaf and Religious Affairs of the city of Misrata, as well as the Secretary-General and Vice-Rector of Imam Ahmed Zerruk University for Sharia Sciences in Misrata.
The delegation was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Hasani, together with his associates: Prof. Dr. Aido Smajić, Vice-Dean for International Cooperation; Prof. Dr. Kenan Musić, Vice-Dean for Finance; and Prof. Dr. Zehra Alispahić, Vice-Dean for Research.
During the meeting, Dean Prof. Dr. Hasani, reflecting on the rich historical, cultural, educational, and economic ties between Libya and the territory of the former Yugoslavia, presented to the guests the historical development of the Faculty of Islamic Sciences as the oldest higher Islamic educational institution in the Balkans. Over its fifty years of continuous operation, the Faculty has graduated more than 1,500 religious officials, both men and women, to serve the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider Balkan region.
Members of the Libyan delegation presented the work of the largest religious and educational institutions in Libya, expressing their desire to establish mutual cooperation. Particular emphasis was placed on the possibilities for further development and enhancement of institutional cooperation between the Faculty of Islamic Sciences, founded by the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and religious and educational institutions in Libya.
Special attention during the discussions was devoted to opportunities for student and professor mobility, the exchange of academic experiences, and other forms of scientific and educational cooperation that could contribute to further strengthening the ties between these institutions.
