Round table - How to educate students about human rights: challenges and perspectives

A round table “How to Educate Students on Human Rights - Challenges and Prospects” was held at the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo on Friday, 14 December 2018. In the event representatives of Law Faculties in BiH took part (Zenica, Banja Luka and Sarajevo) and the region (Maribor, Zagreb, Rijeka, Niš and Belgrade) and non-governmental organizations (Civil Rights Defenders, Humanity in Action and the European Integration Monitoring Initiative). The round table offered a unique opportunity to exchange experiences, as well as a space for discussion about obstacles and already existing good practices of formal and non-formal education of students and human rights students.
The introductory addresses were delivered by Prof. Dr. Hajrija Sijerčić-Čolić, Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Sarajevo, and distinguished guest Drahoslav Stefanek, Head of the Council of Europe Office in Sarajevo. Ambassador Stefanek emphasized that human rights are the foundation of this international organization, whose full member is Bosnia and Herzegovina. He emphasized that the Council of Europe issued Recommendations to all Member States in 2004 to introduce topics on active citizenship and human rights at all levels of education.
The round table was organized by the Law Faculty of the University of Sarajevo and the European Association of Law Students Sarajevo, with the support of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Stiftung Sarajevo.
