Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina – 20–21 January 2026

The University of Sarajevo, together with its international partners, hosted and organised the Closing Meeting and Green Conference entitled “From Knowledge to Action – Universities Driving the Green Transition” on 20–21 January 2026. The event was supported by the International Visegrad Fund and brought together higher education institutions from the V4 countries and the Western Balkans to exchange experiences and strengthen cooperation in the field of sustainability and green transition.

The two-day event took place at the University of Sarajevo (Rectorate – Ceremony Hall) and gathered more than 55 in-person participants, alongside over 20 online participants, including university leaders, researchers, students and representatives of partner organisations.

On the first day’s morning the partners of the project held the Closing Meeting, during which partners reviewed implemented activities, shared lessons learned and discussed future opportunities.

The „From knowledge to action – Universities driving the green transition” conference in the afternoon was open to the public, and broadcasted online. The conference featured plenary presentations on action plans, best practices and feasible green initiatives that can be adopted by universities with limited resources. The programme highlighted the role of higher education institutions as key actors in translating knowledge into action and influencing sustainable change beyond the campus.

On the second day, students and university staff took part in the Green Challenge Circuit, an interactive, low-budget community activity combining light physical movement with practical sustainability challenges related to energy efficiency, waste management, food choices and green decision-making, encouraging active participation and environmental awareness.

The event successfully demonstrated how universities can act as drivers of the green transition, fostering collaboration between academia, students and the wider community while promoting realistic and inclusive sustainability solutions.
