Univerzitet u Sarajevu

The University of Sarajevo is diligently preparing for the central commemoration of two significant events: the commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the genocide in and around Srebrenica in July 1995 and the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement signing.

The commemoration of the Srebrenica Genocide 30th anniversary will take place from 1 to 3 July 2025 and will feature a multi-day interdisciplinary international conference, along with a series of scientific and artistic events aimed at preserving the memory and educating the public about the genocide.

Activities to mark the 30th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement signing will be scheduled from 21 to 25 November 2025, and will similarly encompass a variety of scientific and artistic initiatives.

To effectively organize and implement these activities, a Coordinating Committee has been established, comprising the chairperson, the rector of the University of Sarajevo, relevant vice-rectors, and the following members:

  • Prof. Dr. Sead Turčalo, Dean of the Faculty of Political Sciences
  • Dr. Sci. Muamer Džananović, Director of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law
  • Prof. Dr. Zinka Grbo, Dean of the Faculty of Law
  • Dr. Sci. Sedad Bešlija, Director of the Institute for History
  • Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, Dean of the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology, and Security Studies
  • Prof. Dr. Adnan Busuladžić, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy
  • Prof. Mr. Faruk Lončarević, Dean of the Academy of Performing Arts
  • Prof. Dr. Dubravka Pozderac-Lejlić, Dean of the Academy of Fine Arts

The objective of these activities is, through scholarly and artistic engagement, to ensure a lasting remembrance of the genocide's victims and to promote universal values of peace, justice, and human rights.

As a leading higher education institution in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the University of Sarajevo endeavors through these initiatives to contribute to the preservation of the memory of genocide victims, as well as to foster understanding of the importance of peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond, while also advancing education and the promotion of universal values of justice, peace, and human rights.
