Minister Husić-Mehmedović and Rector Škrijelj visited Faculties of Administration, Sports and Physical Education and Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies
Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth KS, Prof. Dr. Melika Husić-Mehmedović and University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, with Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, Social Sciences Group Council President, on 11 February 2021, continued touring the UNSA organizational units. On this occasion they visited the Faculty of Administration, Faculty of Sports and Physical Education and the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies.
All visits were used to present to the management current events related to the establishment of the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of KS, and current activities related to the preparation of the new Law on Higher Education. In her introductory speech, Minister Husić-Mehmedović emphasized that visits to the University of Sarajevo Faculties are carried out in order to see the objective circumstances in which Faculties operate, and to directly contribute to building a partnership between Faculties and the new Ministry. In addition, the Minister expressed the need to gain a detailed insight into the models of implementation of the teaching process in the context of general efforts aimed at combating the coronavirus pandemic.
University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj in his addresses during the visit emphasized the exceptionally high-quality contribution of the visited Faculties to the reform and integration processes at the University of Sarajevo, and thanked Deans and Faculty management for their continuous understanding and support. In addition to the already started activities on the preparation of the new Law on Higher Education, Rector Škrijelj pointed out that the University, i.e. its Faculties, Academies and Institutes have significant expectations from the new Ministry in terms of implementing infrastructure projects, but also the realization of budget funds intended to support research at the University of Sarajevo. In that sense, the fact that the Budget of Sarajevo Canton for 2021 brings a significant increase in budget funds intended for scientific research was welcomed.
Faculty of Administration Dean, Doz. Dr. Emir Tahirović and the Vice Deans during the visit pointed out the key goals and directions of the Faculty's development in the next five years, and presented the activities and results of the work, emphasizing the achievements in the field of international cooperation. They also presented their infrastructural capacities, as well as the circumstances in which they conduct online classes. They also discussed the possibilities of improving the work of the Faculty in various segments, including the publishing in terms of further indexing of the magazine “Management,” and the organization of international conferences and conferences.
Faculty of Sports and Physical Education (FASTO) Dean, Prof. Dr. Haris Alić, with the Faculty management, expressed his satisfaction with the visit and the opportunity to present the Faculty in direct contact with the representatives of the newly established Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of KS. In a short presentation, the organizational structure of the Faculty, a cross-section of human resources and an overview of key projects of the Faculty were presented. FASTO representatives pointed out the quality preparation of the Faculty for performing the combined model of teaching, i.e. conducting theoretical classes in online mode, with practical classes and exams that are realized in direct contact with respect to all applicable measures of epidemiological protection and prevention. Of course, the visit was also used to tour the construction site where the final works on the construction of the swimming pool at FASTO are being carried out. The opening of the pool represents a significant potential for improving the work of the Faculty, but also a valuable recreational resource for the local community and the Sarajevo Canton. It was emphasized that an expert study on the organization of the work of the pool is being prepared, and in that aspect, the support and engagement of both the University and the new Ministry is expected.
Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies (FKKS) management, led by Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, presented the organization and human resources of her Faculty in a similar way. It was pointed out that the importance of the Faculty is especially evident in the current situation when we face complex security challenges at the local and global level in the form of migration, pandemics, and the fight against terrorism. The scientific and professional expertise offered by the Faculty in this regard is especially sought after in the regional context. FKKSS representatives especially emphasized the reference and importance of their magazine “Kriminalističke teme” and in that sense they emphasized the need to pay special attention to individual scientific fields and disciplines and publishing activities in the development of the new Ministry. The need to support the programs of support for scientific research and academic publishing activities to be as comprehensive and respectful as possible and to have as many specifics and special circumstances related to them as possible was also emphasized.
In his review of the work and activities of FKKSS, Rector Škrijelj emphasized that it is a highly sought after Faculty, popular among potential students, and pointed out the high quality of the Faculty in organizing online classes, but also building an international reputation thanks to which FKKSS organized in the previous period. a prestigious international conference, the organization of which is usually awarded to faculties and universities from the member states of the European Union.
