UNSA Faculty of Law Students Won Third Place in Regional Media Law Competition and Qualified for World Competition in Oxford
UNSA Faculty of Law students, gathered in the club “Iudex”, participated from 2 to 4 December 2020 in the oral part of the regional competition in media law - Price Media Law Moot Court Competition. The competition was held in online courtrooms, and the working language was English.
The “Iudex” club consisted of: Igor Petković, Delila Islamović, Nasiha Nuhanović and Selma Lončarić. Students were prepared for the competition by assistants Nasir Muftić, LLM, Tahir Herenda, LLM and Harun Išerić, MA Iur.
The competition began in May 2020, with the publication of a hypothetical case dedicated to freedom of speech and assembly during the virus pandemic. Until November, students researched issues of freedom of assembly and speech online, as well as the spread of misinformation and false news about the virus, and wrote submissions (on behalf of the applicant and on behalf of the state on alleged violations of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights) based on case law. UN human rights bodies, the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, the European Court of Human Rights, the Court of Justice of the EU and the highest national courts and on the most recent literature.
In the oral rounds, the students played four matches and won three. In the match for third place, the Faculty of Law from Budapest won, and the court panel consisted of: Enis Omerović (Faculty of Law in Zenica), Krisztina Rozgonyi (University of Vienna) and Tamás Szabó (lawyer). Having won the third place, the students repeated the best success so far of the Faculty of Law in Sarajevo from 2013 and 2015.
Igor Petković won third place in the category of the best speakers (in a competition of 70 participants).
Based on the achieved success, the students qualified for the world competition, as the fifth team from BiH that has succeeded since 2008. The world competition, which will bring together the world's 35 best law schools, will be held in late March and early April 2021.
