The 80th Anniversary of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Sarajevo Celebrated with a Ceremonial Academy

On June 3, 2026, a Ceremonial Academy was held in the Ceremonial Hall of the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo to mark 80 years of existence and work of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Sarajevo.

The celebration program began with the opening of an exhibition of works of art by MA Emir Durmišević, assistant at the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Sarajevo. The exhibition was opened by Prof. Dr. Maja Žmukić and Prof. Dr. Mirzana Pašić-Kodrić. This was followed by the singing of the national anthem of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the performance of the academic anthem Gaudeamus by the Choir of the Faculty of Pedagogy.

The attendees were addressed by the Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy, Prof. Dr. Mirela Omerović, the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton Dušanka Bošković, Minister of Education and Training of the Sarajevo Canton Naida Hota-Muminović, as well as an alumna of the Faculty of Pedagogy Hena Fajić, who spoke through personal experience about the importance of the Faculty in the professional and life development of its former students.

The festive program was further enriched by performances by the Choir of the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Sarajevo, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Merima Čaušević and the Orchestra of the Public Institution Center for Blind and Visually Impaired Children and Youth Sarajevo, whose performances contributed to the festive atmosphere of marking this significant anniversary.

As part of the jubilee celebration, recognitions and letters of appreciation were awarded to deserving employees, associates and partners of the Faculty of Pedagogy for their contribution to the development of the Faculty, the improvement of education, scientific research work and long-term cooperation. The celebration of the anniversary was also an opportunity to recognize all generations of management, teaching, associate and administrative staff who, over eight decades, contributed to the development of the Faculty of Pedagogy and its recognizable place in the educational system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Over the course of eight decades of operation, the Faculty of Pedagogy of the University of Sarajevo has made an immeasurable contribution to the development of the educational system of Bosnia and Herzegovina, educating generations of teachers, pedagogues, educators and other experts dedicated to improving upbringing and education.

The celebration of this significant anniversary was an opportunity to recall the rich tradition of the Faculty, its scientific and professional successes, as well as the importance of continuous investment in education as the foundation of social development.

Today, the Faculty of Pedagogy remains recognizable for the quality of education, scientific research work, international cooperation and active contribution to the development of modern education in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
