Memorandum of Cooperation Signed Between the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law at UNSA and the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton

On 13 May 2025, in Sarajevo, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the University of Sarajevo – the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law, and the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton. The Memorandum was signed by the Director of the Institute, Dr. Sci. Muamer Džananović, and the Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Dr. Sci. Omer Osmanović.

This document aims to strengthen institutional collaboration in fostering a “culture of remembrance” regarding the period of the aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, the research of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide, as well as the preservation of the achievements of the defense and liberation war.

During the signing ceremony, Minister Osmanović stated: “By signing this Memorandum, the institutional support for the work of the Institute for Research of Crimes Against Humanity and International Law at the University of Sarajevo is elevated to a higher level. The activities implemented by the Institute — through scientific work, public events, and publishing — are of exceptional importance for fostering a culture of remembrance and expressing respect for the victims. The Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton will continue to be a reliable partner in implementing projects that contribute to truth, justice, and the preservation of historical memory.”

Director Džananović emphasized: “I thank the Ministry for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton for their expressed support. Every concrete form of assistance to our scientific work and institutional activities represents a strong motivation to continue and improve what we do. By signing this Memorandum and implementing the planned forms of cooperation, space is opened for further strengthening of the Institute’s role in the scientific and social context — especially in the segment of persistent resistance against denial of crimes and genocide committed during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

The Memorandum foresees support for the Institute in the realization of scientific and research projects, organization of conferences, panels, and exhibitions, as well as support in publishing and archival activities. It also envisions the possibility of financial support for certain activities of the Institute through intersectoral redistribution of budget funds from the Government of the Sarajevo Canton.
