Dr. Sci. Med. Lejla Alić from the UNSA Faculty of Medicine won the award for poster presentation at the prestigious international scientific congress in the field of complement systems
At the 28th International Scientific Congress in the field of complement system (innate immune system), 28th International Complement Workshop (www.icw2021berlin.de), held from 7 to 10 December 2021, Dr. Sci. med Lejla Alić from the Faculty Medicine, University of Sarajevo won the award for the poster presentation “Humoral immune responses targeting malondialdehyde-epitopes in kidney transplantation patients.”
At this prestigious congress, which was attended by more than 500 delegates from the world's top universities from 30 countries, out of a total of 300 very competitive poster presentations, poster dr. Alic won this award.
Preliminary results of a study conducted in collaboration with the Department of Laboratory Medicine and the Department of Internal Medicine III of the Medical University of Vienna were presented as part of the poster presentation. Dr. Alić, together with researchers at the Medical University of Vienna, showed that immunoglobulins are specific for malondialdehyde epitopes, and the binding of certain proteins of the complement system in the blood to the same epitopes is an important factor in organ transplant rejection.
