UNSA Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies 30th Anniversary Celebrated
In the full Aula of the Sarajevo City Hall, the Faculty of Criminalistics, Criminology and Security Studies (FKKSS), University of Sarajevo marked the 30th anniversary of its establishment and successful activity.
The ceremony was held under the slogan ”30 years of Dedication to Education and Security, Together We Build a Safe Future.'
The participants were able to get acquainted with the mission and developmental path of this significant higher education institution.
FKKSS Dean, Prof. Dr. Jasmin Ahić, recalled that this Faculty was established in the most difficult war year - in 1993 by the RBIH Presidency Decree - 30 years ago.
“In the years of aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, in Sarajevo under the siege, during the general destruction of man and humanity, the universe in Sarajevo and our professors built a faculty - said Ahić.
He pointed out that the existence and development of FKKSS correspond to 30 years of organization and strengthening the institutions of the state of BiH, stating that “the story of this Faculty is also a story of spiritual resistance, a desire for progress and amendment to society and the state of knowledge, and the belief that education are education and human capital the most important factors in the construction of the contemporary democratic state.”
University of Sarajevo Rector (UNSA), Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, said that the FKKSS was a testimony to the unwavering engagement and determination of the BiH academic community and the political nomenclature of the time.
The NATO commander Sarajevo, Brigade General Pamela McGah, also addressed the attendees, pointing to the wider context and importance of education of security experts and their engagement, and emphasizing the importance of joint action on eliminating current security threats and risks.
“Threats are so diverse that no state can individually respond to all of them effectively. The way the threats are overcome by state borders, so our response must be transnational by nature” said General McGaha.
NATO Sarajevo commander praised the universe in Sarajevo and his CFS Forum for continuous engagement and welcomed the maintenance of the international scientific conference “Crimen, Forensis, Securitas - 30 years in B&H” as an opportunity for a navigable discussion of all important issues from the safety domain.
Prof. Dr. Lada Sadiković, Vice-Dean for Scientific Research Work and the President of the Scientific and Program Committee of the Conference, spoke about the international scientific conference, which, as well as the celebration of the FKKSS’ anniversary, is held as part of the 20th Day of Criminal Sciences, which she solemnly opened.
She noted that this conference is being held at a time that characterizes major changes in the world, and that “obviously now, more than ever it became clear how significant cooperation and a joint approach to solving many crises and problems.”
The participants in the ceremony were also welcomed through a video call by from Washington by the first US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Viktor Jackovich, who is simultaneously the first honorary student of the FKKSS.
Former Ambassador Jackovich at the same time congratulated on the occasion of this significant anniversary, remembering that time and perilous conditions in which FKKSS initially operated.
He said that these difficult days in Bosnia and Herzegovina and a large number of people, who selflessly sacrificed, should not be forgotten.
The academy, which was organized under the auspices of the BiH Presidency President, Željko Komšić, was also an opportunity to award the FKKSS thank-you to the deserving institutions and personalities who have made a significant contribution to the development and growth of this Faculty in the past three decades.
