University of Sarajevo Library: Construction works to start

As part of a regular visit to projects implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the delegation of the Saudi Development Fund met today with representatives of the University of Sarajevo, on the occasion of the Project for building and equipping the University Library of Sarajevo, for which the Fund fully provided grants.

The Saudi Development Fund delegation: Messrs. Abdullah Alromeih, Bandar Alharbi, Abdullah Alrshoudi and Abdulrahman Alsogheer, was welcomed by the Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Minister of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of KS Mr. Enver Hadžiahmetović, Vice Rector for Finance UNSA, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, creator of the conceptual project of the University Library of the University of Sarajevo and project manager of the Project Implementation Unit, Prof. Dr. Adnan Pašić, Director of the Directorate for Construction and Maintenance of the University of Sarajevo Campus, Mrs. Lejla Hajro, and Mrs. Aida Veladžić in the capacity of team leader for technical assistance in the project of building and equipping the University of Sarajevo Library, as well as other members of the Project Implementation Unit.

Rector Škrijelj expressed his deep gratitude to the representatives of the Saudi Development Fund for their complete and unreserved support for the construction and equipping of the UNSA Library, the largest project currently being implemented by the University of Sarajevo. He also expressed his sincere gratitude to the current composition of the KS Government, as well as to the line ministries, for all types of support, both in financial and administrative terms. Rector Škrijelj also referred to the continuous support with special emphasis on the funds provided for the payment of rent for the Library building and the electricity connection, and support in the process of issuing building permits for the construction of the Library building. Also, Rector Škrijelj pointed out the significant support of the Mayor of Novo Sarajevo, Mr. Hasan Tanović, for the realization of this project.

Saudi Development Fund representatives expressed continued support for the Library Construction Project, and thanked Rector and members of the University of Sarajevo delegation for their cooperation in this extremely important project for both the University of Sarajevo and the Development Fund. progress in higher education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. They expressed special satisfaction with the support and interest of the Government of Sarajevo Canton and line ministries for the project of building the University Library, which facilitates the implementation of the entire project. Also, Fund representatives expressed hope that similar support from relevant institutions will be achieved for the project "King Salman bin Abdulaziz Scientific Research Institute at the University of Sarajevo School of Science and Technology (SSST)".

Minister Nikolić stated that the University of Sarajevo Campus is currently in the process of removing dilapidated buildings, which will open up views of the future building of the University Library on the UNSA Campus.

Minister Hadžiahmetović also expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the Fund, stating that the Ministry he represents will support the project of building and equipping the university library as certainly one of the largest and most serious projects in Sarajevo Canton.

UNSA Vice-Rector for Finance, Professor Zaimović, informed the Fund's representatives about the current activities on the project, as well as the actions that are being taken or planned, regarding the announcement of a new call for bids for the construction and equipping of the University Library.

After the announcement of the call for the selection of contractors and equipment of the University Library, and after the completion of the said procedure, the beginning of construction works is expected this summer.
