Rector Škrijelj on Jovan Divjak: The departure of the great man who defended and built Bosnia and Herzegovina
“The departure of our General Divjak represents another irreparable loss for our academic community,” Rector Škrijelj pointed out. “In the most difficult moments for our homeland, he made an immeasurable contribution to the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then, as a true patriot and humanist, he continued to build the country he defended, guided by the great idea that education builds Bosnia and Herzegovina. The community that he gathered and built around the Association “Education Builds BiH”, thousands of scholarship holders and thousands of donors, is unprecedented in the modern history of Bosnia and Herzegovina and remains a pledge of its future. A philanthropist, humanist and a great man who dedicated his life to educating young people, especially young people who come from the most vulnerable and sensitive parts of our society, he was, because of his idea and work, actually a member of our academic community. Deeply saddened by your departure, today we pay tribute to your work, with the firm belief that the idea of education that builds Bosnia and Herzegovina will live on through the professors, workers and students of the University of Sarajevo. Rest in peace, General! “
Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, sent condolence to the family of General Divjak and the Association “Education Builds BiH”.
