Presentation of Department of Piano students MAS within the 14th "May Music Festival"
The program of this year's edition of the "May Music Festival" festival will include two concerts by the Piano Department of the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo. The first presentation of the students will be held on Monday, 31 May 2021, in the Concert Hall "Cvjetko Rihtman" (Hall of the High School of Music) at 7 p.m. On that occasion, Esma Babić, Amina Mujalo and Amila Rančić, students in the class of Prof. Mr. Višnja Bakalar, Nadir Hošić, student Prof. Mr. Dragan Opančić, and Josipa Bošnjak, Sara Ljevak and Selma Teskeredžić, students Doz. Mr. Azra Medić.
Esma Babić, a second-year student, will perform "Symphony", the first movement from Partitira BWV 826 in C minor by Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750), a composition that structurally relies on the Baroque suite, an instrumental multi-movement form composed of a series of stylized dances. a relationship defined by the principle of contrast and tonal unity. However, by implementing the symphony as the initial attitude, the usual structure of the baroque suite was disrupted. The symphony, in Bach's meaning, is a three-part invention, a polyphonic form based on an imitation procedure and multiple counterpoint processing of thematic material.
Nadir Hošić, a second-cycle student, will present an interpretation of the Concerto BWV 974 in D minor by Johann Sebastian Bach, which is a transcription of Alessandro Marcello's Concerto for oboe S D935. This work, established in the piano repertoire, belongs to a series of Bach's arrangements of concerts by Venetian Baroque composers prepared for performance on harpsichord and organ.
The program will also include two compositions from the opus of Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849), an affirmer of Polish musical romanticism, whose creative focus was predominantly directed towards the piano repertoire. A significant representative of his expression are nocturnes, piano miniatures of melancholic evocation, written in a musical language characterized by a developed melody supported by broken chords, which achieves expressive gradation and deepens the lyrical essence. Chopin's "Nocturno" no. 20 op. posth. Amina Mujalo, a third-year student, will play in C minor, after which graduate student Amila Rančić will perform the first movement "Allegro maestoso" from Sonata no. 3 op. 58, based on the opposition of thematic material, the confrontation of which builds a dense musical tissue.
The "Chopin's romantic atmosphere" is followed by "Petrarch's sonnet" 104, p. 161 no. 5 in E major by Franz Liszt (1811-1886) interpreted by Amila Rančić. It is a work of a programmatic nature, and relies on the sonnet "I do not find peace" ("Pace non trovo") by the Italian Renaissance poet Francesco Petrarca (1304-1374). In articulating a non-musical template, Liszt crosses the line of merely evoking the sentiment of poetry, striving to create his own interpretation of what is read and experienced through which he passes the elements of subjective confession. The confusion and emotional lability of the lyrical subject is reflected in the rapid changes of mood, achieved by unexpected harmonic shifts, while the expressive persuasiveness is achieved by virtuosity and enrichment of the piano technique.
Josipa Bošnjak, a first-year student, will present a performance of Etude op. 33 no. 8 in G minor by the Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943), works of pronounced lyricism and melody that gradually culminate in their intensity, while third-year students Sara Ljevak, Selma Teskeredžić and Amina Mujalo will play etudes from Op. 8, created in the early creative phase of Aleksandar Scriabin (1871-1915), which represent his kind of piano manifesto. Scriabin's opus, recognizable by its ecstasy, rhythmic complexity and bold use of harmonic circuits, is a reflection of his ethical understanding of music in which he sees the power of the spiritual rebirth of humanity.
