Faculty of Health Sciences UNSA | Completion of Work on Modern Building to International Standards

The Prime Minister of the Canton of Sarajevo, Nihad Uk, the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Professor Dr. Arzija Pašalić, and the Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Professor Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, visited the new building of the Faculty of Health Sciences on Bjelave, where they saw that the work on this modern building is nearing completion, and students and teaching staff will have a space for learning and working to international standards.

The Faculty of Health Sciences UNSA has not had its own building since its founding in 1973. The capital project “Reconstruction, Investment Maintenance, and Equipping of the Faculty of Health Sciences Building” from the Public Investment Program of the Canton of Sarajevo, within the framework of the “Green Economic Development III” project, which aims to increase energy efficiency in the public sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been underway since 2020 and is now in its final stage.

The project involves a redeveloped, expanded, energy-efficient, and modern building that meets all standards, ensuring that the spatial capacity of approximately 4,100 square meters is secured.

The work is being carried out according to a predetermined plan and dynamics, with ongoing work on installations within the building, including heating, ventilation, electrical installations, water and sewage installations, preparatory work on the building's boiler room, and exterior design.

The estimated value of the project, without furnishings, is 6.5 million BAM, with the project being financed primarily by credit obligations from the Canton of Sarajevo in the amount of 3.989 million BAM and by the University of Sarajevo's own funds in the amount of 2 million BAM.

This investment eliminates the risk of not being able to implement educational and research processes due to the lack of own spatial capacity for realizing theoretical and practical teaching in accordance with existing educational plans and programs, standards and norms for performing high-level education activities in the KS region and the Law on Higher Education in Canton Sarajevo.

As stated during this visit, according to the established plan, the completion of work on the new building is expected by the end of May 2024, after which the question of accommodating University members in Sarajevo will be resolved permanently, creating conditions for uninterrupted implementation of educational processes, research activities, and development at the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Health Sciences.

In academic year 2023/2024, a total of 1.094 full and self-financing students were enrolled at all three levels of study at Faculty of Health Sciences.

On this occasion, Prime Minister Uk noted that this example confirms the Government's decision to invest in educational infrastructure - from kindergarten to university - to provide young people and their teaching staff with a better environment for learning and developing scientific and research work.
