Cooperation between UNICEF and the University of Sarajevo Announced

Mrs. Geeta Narayan, UNICEF Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Mrs. Brigita Hadžić, Head of UNICEF Operations and Doz. Dr. Aida Kulo, University of Sarajevo Faculty of Medicine visited the University of Sarajevo Rectorate on Tuesday, 26 June 2018, where they met with Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.
During the meeting, possible forms of cooperation on projects that promote the rights of children in BiH, social protection and inclusion, inclusive education, etc. were discussed.

Mrs. Narayan presented the UNICEF program for BiH for 2015-2020 period and emphasized that the University of Sarajevo is an important player in the formation of new generations. She also expressed interest in signing a Memorandum of understanding between UNICEF and the University of Sarajevo, which would define and facilitate various forms of cooperation, which, in addition to joint implementation of projects, would include the organization of joint conferences and guest lectures of experts from various fields.

The University of Sarajevo Rector said that by signing the Memorandum of Understanding, cooperation would be better defined and resulted in successful implementation of projects in the future. He also stressed: “As an academic community, we are honored to contribute to the implementation of projects through cooperation with a respectable institution such as UNICEF, a significant role in the world and in BiH.”

Cooperation between UNICEF and Five UNSA Faculties has already been achieved through the implementation of projects, such as the Immunization Project implemented with the Faculty of Medicine. “Based on this project, a Cooperation Agreement between the Faculty of Medicine and UNICEF was signed. Thanks to this project, we educated about 200 health professionals of various profiles, which is of great importance to our society” said Dr. Kulo adding that this cooperation was very successful not only in the field of health and immunization, but also in education and international cooperation.

The meeting was concluded with a pronounced mutual readiness for institutional cooperation and the signing of a memorandum of understanding, and in the forthcoming period, the necessary administrative procedures will be taken.
