The Assembly of KS is committed to improving the quality of higher education
The adoption of the new Law on Higher Education in the Sarajevo Canton, the financing of the University of Sarajevo, as well as employment in its organizational units, were the topics of today's meeting between the leadership of the KS Assembly and UNSA representatives.
The meeting was attended by the Speaker of the Assembly Elvedin Okerić, Vice-Presidents Smiljana Viteškić and Danijela Kristić, and Vice-Speaker Vibor Handžić, Rector Rifat Škrijelj, and Vice-Rector for Finance Tarik Zaimović and Secretary General Kenan Filipović. The focus of the talks was also the legal integration of the University.
“We discussed all issues in a constructive discussion, and took common positions. I must say that as a rector I am encouraged, because in the period of serious reform of UNSA, including legal reform, the University has the serious support of its founder. I believe that this dialogue will bear fruit, for the benefit of students and all employees, as well as that in the future UNSA will be a much better positioned higher education institution on the world and European list of universities” said Rector Škrijelj after this meeting.
Chairman Okerić pointed out that higher education as well as the University of Sarajevo are among the priorities in the work of this Government and the Assembly of KS, which is why the procedure for passing a new law for this area has been initiated.
“The current majority in the Assembly is fully committed to improving the quality of higher education through the new Law on Higher Education, which should be on the agenda of the next parliamentary session in the form of a draft. As announced by the line minister Melika Husić-Mehmedović, the public debate on this capital law will be organized in a different way than before, i.e., within five debates, in order to hear different target groups, and their opinions and proposals. Capacity building of human resources at the University is also an important segment and will be subject to Government consideration. The Assembly of KS expects from the University a proposal on the reference date for legal integration, which should be determined by the end of the year“ said Chairman Okerić on this occasion.
