483rd Anniversary of the Gazi Husrev-Bey Library celebrated
The celebration of the 483rd Gazi Husrev-Bey Library in Sarajevo’s Anniversary was held in the Great Hall of the Library on 15 January 2020. The program began with the recitation of the Holy Qur'an by a Faculty of Islamic Sciences student, Nermin Zgodić.
Library Director, Mr. Sc. Osman Lavić welcomed the attendees and introduced them to the most significant activities carried out at the Library during 2019. Three valuable titles on the treasures of the Gaza Husrev-beg Library have been promoted in the program’s central part and signed by longtime staff members of the Library.
Editions “Katalog osmanskih dokumenata Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke, Volume 1”, prepared by Azra Gadžo Kasumović, then “Trajnost islamskog naslijeđa: rukopisi Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke”, by Dr. Mustafa Jahić and the book “Iz rukopisnog blaga Gazi Husrev-begove biblioteke” by Hafiz Haso Popara were presented to the public. Promoters were: Prof. Dr. Alena Ćatović, Prof. Dr. Munir Drkić, and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Zildžić from the Department of Oriental Philology, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo.
At the ceremony, acknowledgments were given to contributions to the Library’s work, for enrichment of its holdings, and other forms of support.
The Gazi Husrev-Bey’s Library has had the honor of paying sincere respect and gratitude to the family of deceased Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bušatlija and deceased Seid Traljić whose gifts made them donors of this Library and incorporated their name into the rich and enduring list of her benefactors - Wakifs.
Mrs. Saida Traljić, daughter of Seid Mustafa Traljić donated to Gaza Husrev-Bey's Library her father's private collection. The extraordinarily valuable collection contains over 4000 publications, including publications that came from outside Bosnia and Herzegovina, which treat our cultural heritage and which we have not had in our holdings so far.
Prof. Dr. Ibrahim Bušatljia donated to the Gaza Husrev-beg Library his extremely valuable and rich private library, over 3900 monographs, 3644 maps, and a large number of serials and archives. In this way, the cartographic collection of the Gazi Husrev-beg Library is greatly enriched.
Acknowledgments for successful cooperation and support were also presented to institutions and associates.
Reisu-l-ulema deputy, Dr. Enes ef. Ljevaković addressed the attendees. The moderator was a Library employee, Meho Manjgo and the ceremony was completed by artist Lamija Kadić.
The 483rd Gazi Husrev-Bey Library’s Anniversary was attended by many distinguished guests, representatives of the Islamic community, as well as guests from academia and the wider cultural and social life.
