University of Sarajevo Delegation Attended the Marking of 27th Anniversary of RBiH Army First Corps Creation
At the Kovači Shahid Cemetery, on the 2nd September 2019, the marking of the 27th anniversary of the First Corps of the RBiH Army creation began on Monday, 2 September 2019.
Numerous delegations, including the Sarajevo Canton delegation led by the Minister of Veterans Affairs, Ismir Jusko, laid flowers in front of the memorial to all the Shahids and fallen soldiers buried at the Kovači cemetery, followed by honoring Alija Izetbegović, the first President of the BiH Presidency and the RBiH Army Commander-in-Chief.
The marking of this significant anniversary was attended by a University of Sarajevo delegation: Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj and Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, who laid flowers and paid tribute to the RBiH Army Shahids and fallen soldiers at the Kovači Cemetery.
The RBiH Army First Corps made a huge contribution to the defense of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the previous war. Mustafa Hajrulahović, Talijan, was appointed commander of this famed operational-tactical unit.
Three brigades of the Corps carried the honorary titles “glorious”' and four “knightly.”
Of the members of the First Corps of the Army of the RBiH, 472 were holders of the highest war award “Golden Lily”, 29 were awarded the highest state honors by the BiH Presidency and 19 members were awarded the “Silver Shield.”
For contributing to the defense of the City of Sarajevo and BiH, the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina Army First Corps was awarded the Collective 6th of April City of Sarajevo Award in 2010.
The program is planned to pay homage to the Shahids and fallen soldiers and to lay flowers at the burial ground at the Alipašina Mosque and at the Lav, Stadion, Sveti Josip, Sveti Marko cemeteries, while a walk from ARBiH First Corps Square to the Kovači Memorial Center will be held at 16:00. An academy will be also held at the Kovači Memorial Complex Amphitheater.
