University Of Sarajevo and Shenandoah University: Collaboration For The Benefit Of Future Generations

Discussions on intensifying cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and Shenandoah University, and the project “Advancing Higher Education in Multireligious Societies” were just some of the topics discussed at the meeting between Shenandoah University President Dr. Tracy Fitzsimmons and the University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.
The meeting took place on Tuesday, 3 September 2019 at the University of Sarajevo Rectorate and was also attended by the University of Sarajevo Vice-Rectors: Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović, Prof. Dr. Aleksandra Nikolić, Prof. Dr. Aida Hodžić, Prof. Dr. Maida Čohodar Husić, Prof. Sanja Burić and Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, and Prof. Dr. Haris Cerić from the Faculty of Political Science.

The Jamal Barzinji Project is a collaboration between the University of Sarajevo, Shenandoah University and Bridgewater College in the US, and International Islamic University Malaysia, entitled “Advancing Higher Education in Multireligious Societies”, which aims to intensify joint activities in the development of civil discourse and intercultural competence of students and employees as well as the local community.

Vice-Rector for Scientific Research Prof. Dr. Dženana Husremović emphasized that the University of Sarajevo has enthusiastically entered into this joint project and emphasized: “We believe that projects that promote multiculturalism, rapprochement and raising awareness of the importance of multiculturalism in the future will be even more important, and this project gives us this opportunity to be one of the pioneers in promoting multiculturalism and intercultural competences not only among students but also our professors and in society in general. “

Recalling that the University of Sarajevo is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj expressed satisfaction that through our cooperation with Shenandoah University we have the opportunity to develop our relationship for the benefit of future generations. “It is precisely the cooperation on this project that is extremely important and we hope that in the coming period we will improve and intensify it” said Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj.

Shenandoah University President Dr. Tracy Fitzsimmons pointed out that they were honored at this university for being able to participate in a partnership project with the University of Sarajevo. She also expressed openness to future cooperation, stating that there were numerous opportunities for intensifying it, such as the mobility of professors, the organization of joint study programs, and joint artistic performances.
