A delegation from the Northwestern Pedagogical University visited the University of Sarajevo
On 25 September 2024, the University of Sarajevo hosted a delegation of the Northwest Pedagogical University from Gansu Province (PR China). The delegation consisted of Prof. Dr. WANG Zhanren, president of the university, TIAN He, director of international cooperation and exchange, SUN Mei, deputy director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, and PENG Jianming, lecturer of the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Literature. On behalf of the University of Sarajevo, the guests were welcomed by the rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, vice rector for finance and newly elected rector Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, vice-rector for international cooperation Prof. Dr. Enita Nakaš, ZHANG Xuezhong, co-director of the Confucius Institute, and Nina Dragičević, head of the Teaching Service.
The main topic of the meeting was the previous activities and achieved results of the Confucius Institute of the University of Sarajevo, which is a joint project of the two universities, as well as the possibilities of intensifying cooperation in the future. The delegation of the Northwestern Pedagogical University especially expressed their satisfaction with the opportunity to meet with the current rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, as well as with the newly elected rector Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović. The members of the delegation sent their hearty congratulations on the occasion of this important transitional moment for the University of Sarajevo, emphasizing the excellent cooperation between the two universities so far.
During the meeting, the key points of cooperation were reiterated, including the signing of the Cooperation Agreement from December 2019 between the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Sarajevo and the Confucius Institute, which laid the foundations for the implementation of teaching programs and the introduction of the Chinese language as an optional subject at the Faculty of Philosophy.
In addition to cooperation through the Confucius Institute, the expansion of academic and research cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the Northwestern Pedagogical University was discussed. Both parties expressed their commitment to further developing cooperation in various scientific, artistic and research fields, and to intensifying the exchange of students and teachers in the future.
It was jointly concluded that the Confucius Institute will continue to play a key role in strengthening friendly relations between the People's Republic of China and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that the cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and the Northwestern Pedagogical University will be equally successful in the coming years.
