One of the central topics discussed was the successful execution of the 14th International Symposium “Music in Society,” held from 24 to 26 October 2024, at the Gazi Husrev-beg Library. This prestigious scientific gathering, organized by the Musicological Society of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Music Academy of the University of Sarajevo, brought together leading experts from twelve countries and showcased the findings of recent research through thirteen working sessions. The Symposium's program featured lectures, a book promotion, workshops, panel discussions, concerts, and exhibitions.
The meeting acknowledged that the venue, the Gazi Husrev-beg Library, recognized as one of the most important cultural and scientific institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, provides an ideal environment for such events. Libraries serve as repositories and transmitters of knowledge, culture, and art, while music, as a universal language and an integral part of cultural identity, seamlessly aligns with this mission. Organizing such a gathering within the Library underscores the connection between tradition, science, and the arts, offering an opportunity for the exchange of ideas in a setting that symbolizes intellectual and spiritual development.
Further steps for joint support of musicological research, as well as mutual assistance in organizing cultural events, were also discussed during the meeting. It was concluded that this collaboration, which has already yielded significant successes, would continue to contribute to the advancement of culture, art, and science in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond.
During the occasion, Dean of the Music Academy, Prof. Ališer Sijarić, the grandson of the renowned literary figure and writer Ćamil Sijarić, presented two copies of his book “Bihorci” (Bihorlular), translated into Turkish, to the Library's collection.
