The Book “Montenegro in the Dukakin Sanjak Defter from 1570” Promoted
The promotion of the book “Montenegro in the Dukakin Sanjak Defter from 1570” by Aladin Husić was organized at the University of Sarajevo Ceremonial Hall on Monday, 7 May 2018.
The welcome and introductory addresses by: Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, University of Sarajevo Rector, Mr. Radovan Miljanić, Montenegrin Embassy Councilor, Dr. Adnan Kadrić, UNSA Oriental Studies Institute Director and Mr. Saša Tomanović, Montenegrin State Archives Director opened the promotion.
Rector Škrijelj pointed out that, in co-publishing between the Montenegro State Archives and University of Sarajevo Oriental Studies Institute, this valuable work represents the translation of the 16th century sources, as suggested by the very book title, with a very large and significant introductory study tooled up with a scientific-analytical apparatus.
“The book deals with the space of that time, or as often mentioned in the history of science – ‘Old Montenegro’. It is the result of international co-operation between two very important institutions, the University of Sarajevo Oriental Studies Institute and Montenegrin State Archives; institutions that share their work based on various historical sources. The nature of their activity merged them along this path, resulting in this publication, published in co-ownership at the end of 2017”said the Rector Škrijelj. He also congratulated to the book author and expressed the desire that cooperation between the Montenegro's State Archives and the UNSA Oriental Studies Institute be equally successful in the future.
On behalf of the Montenegrin Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina, advisor, Mr. Radovan Miljanić addressed the attendees stating that today's event is presenting a very important book of great effort and scientific efforts invested by Dr. Aladin Husić.
Mr. Saša Tomanović, National Archives of Montenegro Director and Dr. Behija Zlatar, including the address by the author Dr. Husić, promoted the book “Montenegro in the Dukakin Sanjak Defter from 1570.”
“The very list of Montenegro from 1570 refers to legal and legal assumptions, the criteria prescribed by the central government through a special act. Of course, the main goal was to collect and distribute taxes. The author gives a very clear explanation of the structure of the list by the villages of Vilajet Montenegro, i.e. the Montenegrin census. At the same time it represents the way and the participation of tax collection services. All of the recourses included and listed in the legal regulations were covered” said Mr. Tomanović.
Dr. Behija Zlatar, when referring to the book emphasized that the Ottoman cadastral books tap tahrir defteri represent a rich and varied material for the study of the social and economic history of the Ottoman Empire, especially for the history of settlements, historical geography.
The books’ author, Dr. Aladin Husić, spoke about the idea behind writing book, pointing out that the publication of this work is a result of good mutual cooperation between the institutions and expressed the hope that this would be a good example and a stimulus for other forms of cooperation.
