Meeting with the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Rector of the University of Sarajevo
The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Bosnia and Herzegovina, His Excellency Abouzar Ebrahimi Torkaman, paid a visit to the University of Sarajevo. The delegation from the Iranian Embassy, comprising Ambassador Torkaman, Mrs. Maedeh Karimi, First Secretary for Political Affairs, and Mr. Mohammad Hossein Ansari, Consul for Culture, was received by Rector Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj and Prof. Dr. Munir Drkić, a regular professor and head of the Department of Persian Language and Literature at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the established academic cooperation between Iranian higher education institutions and the University of Sarajevo. The meeting provided an opportunity to emphasize the successful cooperation between the University and the Embassy, particularly in supporting the Embassy's efforts to send lecturers for Persian language instruction at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Sarajevo. Ambassador Torkaman expressed his satisfaction with the publication of the Bosnian translation of the work “Gulistan” by Sadi Shirazi, a true classic of Persian and world literature. The translation was done by Prof. Munir Drkić.
Following an exchange of information on cooperation, discussions focused on the specific position of higher education institutions in the context of current crises and conflicts that have a global impact on geopolitical and economic developments. The participants emphasized the need to prioritize academic forms of cooperation.
The meeting concluded that the focus of cooperation between the Embassy of Iran and the University of Sarajevo would continue to be on various forms of cooperation and connections between academic communities in Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina, with a special emphasis on student scholarship opportunities, exchange programs for teaching, scientific, and non-teaching staff, as well as strengthening inter-university connections through various models of academic and cultural cooperation.
