University of Sarajevo Presented the Master Plan for the University of Sarajevo Campus
Presentation of the Master Plan and basic elements from the viability study for the University of Sarajevo Campus was organized in cooperation with the Arup Group Ltd. as a part of the project “University of Sarajevo Campus Urban Regeneration” at the University of Sarajevo Rectorate.
Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, President of the Council of Plan and University of Sarajevo Vice-Rector for Finance, presented the University of Sarajevo Campus Master Plan to the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth in Sarajevo Canton, Prof. Dr. Pavle Krstić, Novo Sarajevo Municipality Mayor, Dr. Hasan Tanović, representatives of the Institute for Planning of the Development of KS and the competent municipal services. The meeting was also attended by members of the Plan Council: Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj, Prof. Dr. Denis Zvizdić, Prof. Dr. Samir Dolarević, Prof. Dr. Izet Bijelonja, Prof. Dr. Adnan Pašić and Lejla Hajro, Director of the Campus Construction and Maintenance Directorate, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the University of Dr. Murat Ramadanović and members of the Board of Directors.
The implementation of the Master Plan will contribute to the improvement of public access to various facilities and objects, including measures that will increase urban resistance, which will achieve positive effects on other parts of the city. This project will not only improve the quality of higher education in Sarajevo, but will also serve as an example of urban planning and development that will serve as inspiration and other cities in the region.
The conclusion from the meeting is that the university in Sarajevo will direct the initiative to declare the campus an area of importance for Canton Sarajevo. Also, the presentation of the Master Plan for the Campus of the Sarajevo Canton and the Assembly of the Sarajevo Canton will be followed in the coming period.
The Agreement on the implementation of the University of Sarajevo Campus Urban Regeneration between the Sarajevo Canton Government, the Novo Sarajevo Municipality, the Institute for Planning of the Development of Sarajevo Canton and the University of Sarajevo was signed in 2022. The project, which will ultimately enable the spatial integration of various educational and scientific research units of the University of Sarajevo in a united contemporary campus, is funded by the European Investment Bank (EIB) in partnership with the French Development Agency (AFD).
Today's event is an important step towards the modernization of the education system and improvement of urban areas, creating space for intellectual growth, innovation and social progress.
