University of Sarajevo Presented Its Experience and Good Practices at the EAIE 2026 Conference in Glasgow
The University of Sarajevo participated in the programme of the 36th Annual Conference and Exhibition of the European Association for International Education – EAIE 2026, held in Glasgow, contributing to two programme activities dedicated to international cooperation, the Erasmus+ programme, and the development of inclusive higher education.
The EAIE Conference and Exhibition is Europe’s largest gathering of professionals dedicated to the internationalisation of higher education. Held under the theme “The Rhythm of Revolution,” this year’s conference brought together more than 7,000 participants from 107 countries, representing over 1,200 institutions and organisations from around the world. The programme featured more than 240 sessions and activities, over 350 speakers, and more than 250 exhibition stands, making Glasgow one of the central venues for global dialogue on the future of higher education, the exchange of experiences and good practices, and the development of new international partnerships during the conference.
Prof. Dr Kemal Durić, Vice-Rector for International Relations of the University of Sarajevo, participated as an invited speaker, at the invitation of the European Commission, in the roundtable “Cooperation with the Western Balkans, Moldova and Ukraine: From capacity building to future Erasmus+ association,” held on 9 September. The session focused on the European Union’s cooperation with enlargement countries, with particular emphasis on how international university partnerships can contribute to strengthening institutional capacities and preparing higher education systems for future association with the Erasmus+ programme.
Alongside the representative of the University of Sarajevo, the session featured Daniela Pojar from the Technical University of Moldova and Filip Van Depoele, Head of the International Cooperation Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC). The format provided an opportunity for a direct exchange of experiences between the European Commission and universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Moldova on how Erasmus+ cooperation can evolve from individual mobility activities and projects towards long-term strategic institutional partnerships.
In his presentation, Prof. Durić shared the experience of the University of Sarajevo, where long-standing participation in European programmes has gradually evolved from mobility and capacity-building activities towards institutional internationalisation and strategic European integration. Particular attention was given to UNSA’s experience within EUPeace – European University for Peace, Justice, and Inclusive Societies, a European University Alliance in which the University of Sarajevo, together with its partner universities, contributes to the joint development of education, mobility, research, and long-term institutional initiatives.
The University of Sarajevo was also represented through the poster session “Empowering inclusion through Erasmus+ ICM: Developing adapted physical activity at the University of Sarajevo,” presented by Prof. Dr Kemal Durić and Jitka Králová, Head of the Mobility Office at Palacký University Olomouc, Czech Republic. The poster showcased the development of the Adapted Physical Activity programme at the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education of the University of Sarajevo, developed in cooperation with Palacký University Olomouc through an Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility project. Particular attention was devoted to the challenges, good practices, and outcomes associated with developing this field in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including the development of an inclusive curriculum, intercultural learning, and targeted staff mobility.
The University of Sarajevo’s participation in two programme activities at EAIE 2026 provided an opportunity to showcase UNSA’s experience in implementing Erasmus+ International Credit Mobility, as well as concrete examples of how international cooperation can evolve from individual student and staff exchanges into long-term institutional cooperation, the development of new academic content, strengthened inclusion, and deeper integration into the European Higher Education Area.
Through its participation at EAIE 2026, the University of Sarajevo continues to actively contribute to the European dialogue on the future of internationalisation in higher education, while presenting UNSA’s experience, capacities, and good practices to the international academic community and creating opportunities for new strategic partnerships.
