UNIVERSITY OF SARAJEVO: LETTER OF SUPPORT TO UKRAINIAN ACADEMIC COMMUNITY

The Senate of the University of Sarajevo, at its session held on March 10, 2022, adopted the Letter of Support to Ukrainian Academic Community, wishing to express the support to Ukrainian universities and convey sympathies with the sufferings of Ukrainian people.

LETTER OF SUPPORT TO UKRAINIAN ACADEMIC COMMUNITY

Dear colleagues of the Ukrainian academic community, dear students of Ukrainian universities,

We have been witnessing with horror the terrifying destruction and aggression on Ukraine by the Russian Federation. We deeply sympathise with sufferings the citizens of Ukraine are going through, and would hereby like to express our solidarity and support to your fight for the Justice and the Truth.

Violence and destruction have never been and may never be accepted as a form of life. As members of an academic community which went through the horrors of the longest siege in the contemporary history, professors, teachers, employees, and students of the University of Sarajevo understand this very well.

Horrors that academic community and citizens of Ukraine are going through are the result of lack of mindfulness and inability to comprehend that nothing may be more valuable than a human life, the freedom and the peace. The challenge you are facing today, proves that they – the ones dedicated to the principles of the Evil, cannot learn nor conclude anything from the model of inexpressible brutality which the University of Sarajevo was exposed to in the nineties of the last century. Therefore, the academic community of the University of Sarajevo, calls upon the world public to resist to the darkness of violence whose only aim is to put down the light of the Freedom and the Justice. The Evil that is now upon you, the same Evil that we have survived, cannot be sustained and it must pass.

The members of the academic community of the University of Sarajevo stand with you. The University of Sarajevo remains at disposal for all Ukrainian students and colleagues.
