University of Sarajevo Joins Network of Universities from European Capitals “UNICA”
The General Assembly of “UNICA 2020” held on 19 November 2020 voted to join the University of Sarajevo to the UNICA network.
UNICA is a network of universities from European capitals. This is an institutional network of 53 universities from 37 European capitals that brings together 175,000 staff and 1,950,000 students. It was founded in 1990 and is committed to democratic values, and acts as a catalyst for the advancement, integration and cooperation of member universities across Europe as a means of social understanding, global cooperation and sustainable development. UNICA seeks to facilitate international cooperation and promote academic leadership through understanding and sharing among its members throughout the European Higher Education Area. It also provides a forum where members can reflect on the needs for strategic change in university research, education, administration, and social engagement.
The current president of the UNICA network is Prof. Luciano Saso from the Sapienza University in Rome, Vice-Rector for European University Networks. The UNICA General Secretariat is based in Brussels, Belgium.
The membership initiative was launched by UNICA, and all universities in the region supported the initiative and stressed that the network could not be complete without the participation of the University of Sarajevo.
