On Thursday, 2 April  2026, the successful implementation of the “Education Assistance” project was celebrated at the University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy. This donation was implemented with the support of the Government of Romania/Ministry of Foreign Affairs through the Romanian Agency for International Development Cooperation (RoAid) and the Romanian Embassy in Sarajevo.

The aim of the project was to modernize the equipment in classrooms and offices of teaching staff, and to improve overall working conditions through technical and infrastructural improvements at the Department of French Language and Literature of the Department of Romance Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy. On this occasion, the equipped classrooms were symbolically named after the sculptor Constantin Brâncuși and the playwright Eugène Ionesco, prominent figures of Romanian and French culture.

The event was attended by H.E. Anton Păcurețu, Ambassador of Romania to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Kemal Durić, Dean of the Faculty of Philosophy Prof. Dr. Adnan Busuladžić, Vice-Dean for International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Minka Džanko, and numerous colleagues from the Department of Romance Studies, together with their students.

Romania is an active member of the Francophonie movement, and the Embassy of Romania, in addition to the aforementioned project, provided additional financial support to the Department of French Language and Literature, enabling the purchase of books, textbooks and scientific papers for the department's library.

In the previous period, the Government of Romania, through RoAid, provided financial support to the University of Sarajevo for the adaptation and equipping of the Senate Hall and the University's ceremonial hall for the needs of the Rectorate Library and the presentation of the University's scientific research and artistic work, as well as a sound and recording system for the needs of the Senate and other university bodies.

This cooperation is an example of successful international academic cooperation and bilateral friendship in the year marking 30 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania. This year, Romania is also celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Constantin Brâncuși. On this occasion, the Romanian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina has set up a photo exhibition of his sculptures at the Faculty, while the students of the Department of Romance Studies, together with their professors, have prepared a special program. The exhibition will remain open to visitors, students and art lovers for the next week.

The University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Philosophy and the Romanian Embassy in Bosnia and Herzegovina expressed their belief that this successful cooperation will continue in the future.
