PROUD | The European Commission awarded the University of Sarajevo with the Erasmus Charter in Higher Education

Following the University of Sarajevo's successful application for the new Erasmus+ program period, the European Commission granted the University of Sarajevo the Erasmus Charter in Higher Education 2021-2027 (ECHE).

The Erasmus Charter in Higher Education (ECHE) serves universities as a general qualitative framework for European and international cooperation activities that these institutions can implement as part of the Erasmus+ program. The award of the ECHE is a prerequisite for participation in the new Erasmus+ program, as well as in the three Key Activities it includes (Mobility of individuals for the purpose of learning, Cooperation for innovation and exchange of good practices, Support for policy reforms).

The principles of ECHE have been adapted according to the new emphases of the Erasmus+ program for the period 2021-2027, such as digitalisation, inclusion and sustainability.

Some of the most important innovations are the determination to reach underrepresented groups in mobility through inclusion strategies, the application of green practices in the organisation of Erasmus+ program activities, the implementation of digitalisation through the European Student ID initiative and the Erasmus+ mobile application, as well as the determination to increase the civic engagement of mobile students.

"After the University of Sarajevo received the HR Excellence in Research Award from the European Commission in 2019, the awarded Erasmus Charter in Higher Education represents another exceptional recognition, but also a significant step forward when it comes to international cooperation and even better integration of the University of Sarajevo into the European area of higher education", pointed out prof. Ph.D. Rifat Škrijelj, rector of the University of Sarajevo.

"The University of Sarajevo has already achieved significant success in international cooperation and is recognised as a serious partner in the European educational space. The awarding of the Erasmus Charter in higher education confirms the quality of the work process and recognition for continuous work on improving the quality of education. This charter will additionally strengthen the position of the University of Sarajevo as a key player in international cooperation and open up new development opportunities," said Prof. Ph.D. Enita Nakaš, vice-rector for International Relations of the University of Sarajevo, underlined that this success was achieved thanks to the synergistic action of the International Relations Office of UNSA, students, academic and administrative staff members of the University of Sarajevo.
