Panel discussion “New issues of the Roma community”
A panel discussion on the topic "New Issues of the Roma Community" was held at the Art Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo on 1 September 2021.
The panel discussion was organized with the aim of raising public awareness of current events related to the Roma community in Bosnia and Herzegovina and beyond. The burning issues were the non-implementation of legal provisions on equality in practice, the increase in hate speech and the deterioration of the economic situation as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, mass emigration, and the unresolved issue of stateless persons. Positive trends were also pointed out, such as the increase in the number of joint projects with local self-government units, the increase in the number of primary and secondary school students, as well as the unification of activities within the community itself.
Participants in the discussion were: Mr. Sci. Salih Đuderija (Assistant Minister for Human Rights and Refugees of Sarajevo Canton), Dervo Sejdić (Vice President of the Association "Kali Sara"), Asmir Husić (member of the Association of Young Roma AKSIOM), prof. dr. Asim Mujkić (Faculty of Political Science, University of Sarajevo), and Dalibor Tanić (editor of the "Udar" portal, moderator). The event was also attended by an associate of the Center for Human Rights of the University of Sarajevo, Dr. Gaj Trifković.
