Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton and the University of Sarajevo Signed | Systematic Preservation of the Truth about the Past of Bosnia and Herzegovina

The Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Veterans Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton and the University of Sarajevo (UNSA) was signed today at the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo. The document, whose goal is the systematic preservation of the truth about the past of Bosnia and Herzegovina, was signed by the relevant Minister Omer Osmanović, the Rector of UNSA Tarik Zaimović, and the Minister of Science, Higher Education and Youth of the Sarajevo Canton Dušanka Bošković.

The signing was also attended by the Vice-Rector for Arts, Artistic Research, Culture and Sports Arma Tanović Branković, the Dean of the Academy of Performing Arts Lejla Jusić, and the Vice-Dean for Education of the Academy of Fine Arts Daniel Premec.

The main goal of the Memorandum is to establish strong institutional cooperation in the field of nurturing a culture of remembrance of the period of aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995. The focus of the cooperation will be on the implementation of joint artistic projects, the organization of scientific conferences, forums, exhibitions and ceremonial academies, and the education of young people on the importance of preserving the achievements of the defense and liberation war, the Army and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Minister Omer Osmanović emphasized that cooperation with the academic community is a priority in the fight for truth.

"We want to support projects that will preserve the memory of our defenders, but also the victims of war crimes and genocide in a dignified manner. Our cooperation with the University will ensure that these topics receive the space they deserve in the public and the educational system, because connecting the achievements of the defense and liberation war with science is of key importance for the future," emphasized Minister Osmanović.

According to Rector Zaimović, the University has a social and moral obligation to contribute to the preservation of the truth with scientific and artistic tools.

"This Memorandum will enable the projects of our academies and faculties to be directly linked to the capacities of the Ministry, guaranteeing that remembrance is based on scientific facts and high artistic values," emphasized Rector Zaimović.

Minister Bošković assessed that this synergy demonstrates the systemic approach of the Sarajevo Canton:

"Support for young researchers and artists who address these topics is of vital importance for building a society that learns from its history in order to build a safer and better future."

The Memorandum was signed for an indefinite period, and specific activities will be implemented through project proposals that the University of Sarajevo will submit to the relevant ministry.
