Meeting of the University of Sarajevo Rector and the Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia

The Rector of the University of Sarajevo, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, met on Tuesday, 3 February  with H.E. Mr. Raul Toomas, Ambassador of the Republic of Estonia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, based in Budapest. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Kemal Durić, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation of the University of Sarajevo, as well as representatives of the Estonian business sector.

During the meeting, the possibilities of cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and universities in the Republic of Estonia were discussed, with a special focus on its improvement at the academic and research level. A special part of the conversation was dedicated to the possibilities of implementing a joint research project between the University of Tallinn (TalTech) and the University of Sarajevo entitled "Geothermal Sarajevo - Feasibility Study and Test Drilling for Sustainable Urban Heating". The project concerns the development of a feasibility study and test drilling with the aim of examining the potential of using geothermal energy for sustainable urban heating in Sarajevo.

Representatives of Estonian businessmen expressed their interest in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo, recognizing UNSA as a reliable partner for the implementation of projects in the field of renewable energy sources, as well as in the broader context of the smart city initiative.

In a conversation with the guests, Rector Zaimović presented the scientific and research capacities of the University of Sarajevo, and expressed the University's readiness to actively engage with its academic and research potential in the implementation of joint projects of strategic importance for sustainable development.

Other forms of future cooperation were also discussed, including the exchange of teaching and research staff, connecting faculties and institutes, and strengthening institutional ties between higher education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Estonia.
