Expert analysis of UNSA Rectorate artworks collection as the first step towards restoration

Activities of expert analysis of artworks from the Rectorate's Art Collection have begun at the University of Sarajevo premises, which represent the first step in preparing documentation for their future restoration. The process is being implemented in cooperation with the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Sarajevo and involves students of the interdisciplinary study of Conservation and Restoration.

Expert analysis of artworks from the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo's Art Collection and the preparation of photo documentation that will serve as the basis for the preparation of restoration studies began on Thursday, 12 March  2026 at the University of Sarajevo premises.

Professor Ajla Alijagić is participating in the process together with students of the interdisciplinary study of Conservation and Restoration: Belma Mašić and Amina Abazović - students of the second cycle of studies, and Ilhana Bejtić, Lamija Bisić and Mirko Vlaški - students of the first cycle of studies.

The students and the professor at the Rectorate of the University of Sarajevo premises were greeted by the rector, prof. dr. Tarik Zaimović, together with the Vice-Rector for Arts, Culture and Sports, Prof. Arma Tanović Branković, M.Sc., and Adela Nurković Kulenović, M.Sc., Senior Associate at the University's Research and Development Center, who will collaborate with the Academy of Fine Arts on behalf of the Rectorate on the further implementation of activities related to the restoration of works of art from the University's collection.

The launch of these activities builds on previous processes of research, documentation and valorization of the art collection of the University of Sarajevo, including professional activities aimed at its systematic processing and presentation.

The art collection of the University of Sarajevo represents a significant segment of the cultural and artistic heritage of the University and testifies to its long tradition of connecting academic, artistic and social activities.

This initiative is an example of continuous cooperation between members of the University of Sarajevo, through the connection of professional knowledge in the fields of art, restoration, protection of cultural heritage and research work. With these activities, the University of Sarajevo confirms its commitment to an interdisciplinary approach and strengthening academic cooperation within its own institution.

The special importance of this cooperation is also reflected in the active involvement of students in practical processes of protection and preservation of artistic heritage, which provides young experts with the opportunity to gain professional experience and additionally encourages their further professional development within the academic and cultural community of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Further activities related to the restoration of works of art from the University's collection will be implemented with the coordination of the Department for Arts, Culture and Sports of the University of Sarajevo.
