Sarajevo has all the potential to become a modern world education center

The idea of Sarajevo as a city of foreign students and the center of the region, capacities of the University and faculties, as well as double degree diplomas, transition to treasury operations were just some of the topics discussed by Elmedin Konaković, Sarajevo Canton Assembly Chair and the co-chairs Danijela Kristić and Vibor Handžić today with University of Sarajevo Rector, Rifat Škrijelj and Vice-Rectors.
“These diplomas are very important because they enable our professors to teach at faculties abroad, but also here. There are foreign students on Medicine, but that's still a bit and has not changed for years. There are faculties that can be of commercial character, and this just confirms the thesis that treasury operations are a good thing, as well as the fact that from now on, salaries will be certain and stable” said Chairman Konaković.
He suggested that the needs of the UNSA are higher than the allocated tranche, but that they will try to do everything that this very important educational institution has the status that suits them.
He announced that they have a plan to support the Science Fund, and said that it is necessary to adapt education to the labor market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and to do everything to have as much scientific research as possible.
Rector Škrijelj said that they introduced a list of twenty most successful ranked students, among which for the first time from the social sciences, namely the Faculty of Economics Maja Arslanagić and Selma Kadić-Maglajlić.
“The function of the University of Sarajevo is the result of a good dialogue with our founder, that is, the KS Assembly, because only in this way can we improve our work and develop ourselves. Although we are not satisfied with the Law on Higher Education, we are implementing it. Among other things, what disturbs us most is that vice-rectors do not have the right to vote, which is absurd. We are the only University in the world that has six vice-rectors who do not have the right to vote anywhere” said Rector Škrijelj.
He also stated that he hoped that the budget would be adopted before New Year, because, in his opinion, the decision on temporary financing would significantly complicate certain processes, and the Collective Agreement and the possibility that after fifteen years professors will receive higher salaries will not be respected.
He informed the participants how the problem of the heat energy heating process of the campus users of the University of Sarajevo with the company Unis-Energetika was solved.
On this occasion, the vice-rector for finance, Elvir Čizmić, said that in terms of finance they have excellent cooperation in the ministries of finance and education, science and youth KS.
“We have all finished and we have an auxiliary clearing center, code allocation and all technical things are flexibly set up, so we do not have problems in work, especially when it comes to international projects. We will show real and material costs. We are also on the list of assets that need to be included in the business books, which is a prerequisite for estimating the value of real estate, and we have one property outside BiH” said Čizmić, adding that they plan to build a university city in Campus to be peer with similar ones in the world.
At the end of the meeting, it was emphasized that the University of Sarajevo in the July edition of Webometrics University ranking of 27,000 of them managed to advance for 691 places, which clearly indicates that the management is determined to make the results of all teachers' work as visible to the world's public.
