The 43rd anniversary of the Academy of Performing Arts - University of Sarajevo – inspection visit to the Academy the reconstruction of the Open Scene Obala

A visit was made to the Academy to inspect the final works on the reconstruction of the Open Scene Obala, funded by the Municipality of Centar Sarajevo was made by the Mayor of Centar, Srđan Mandić, along with University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Tarik Zaimović, and Dean Prof. Mr. Faruk Lončarević to the UNSA Academy of Performing Arts where the reconstruction of the Open Scene Obala is underway, cofinanced by the Centar Municipality.

A ceremonial session of the Teaching and Artistic Council was held, during which Mayor Mandić was awarded a certificate of appreciation for his significant contributions and support for the reconstruction project.

The Municipality allocated 66.236 BAM for this project, which is notable as it is the venue where the iconic play “Audicija” premiered in December 1984. Mayor Mandić emphasized the importance of modernizing this space to ensure its longevity and to foster new artistic talent, stating that this investment in education will greatly benefit future generations of young actors.

Dean Lončarević expressed gratitude to Mayor Mandić and the Municipality for their efforts in securing funding for the renovation. He noted that without their support, the reconstruction would not have been possible and highlighted how this initiative has encouraged other entities to contribute to the project.

The Academy of Performing Arts Sarajevo (ASU) began operations in 1981 with its first cohort in Acting, followed by the opening of a Directing Department in 1989 and a Dramaturgy Department during wartime in 1994. The Open Scene “OBALA” serves as a crucial platform for students and professionals alike to enrich Sarajevo's theatrical life.

The visit also included attendance from Prof. Lejla Jusić, Vice Dean for Development, Finance, and Production, and other faculty members, emphasizing the collaborative effort in revitalizing this cultural landmark.
