Enroll Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Sarajevo | Monitoring European trends in the development of related sciences and related education
The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics was founded in 1960, by the decision of the appropriate body of the People's Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Official Gazette, No. 50/60) on the separation of the Department of Natural Sciences and Mathematics from the Faculty of Philosophy, thus becoming an independent scientific and educational institution science.
Today, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics is an organizational unit within the University of Sarajevo that makes a huge contribution to the scientific recognition and visibility of the University of Sarajevo, not only regionally but also globally, as evidenced by the scientific success of our former students who are current employees of Natural Sciences. faculty or are employees of renowned universities and institutions around the world.
The organizational structure of the Faculty of Science includes five departments: the Department of Biology, the Department of Physics, the Department of Geography, the Department of Chemistry and the Department of Mathematics. Each of the mentioned departments realizes the teaching-scientific process in the first, second and third cycle according to the Bologna principles of study.
Each teaching-scientific department represents a complete teaching and scientific unit, which consists of teaching-scientific departments, scientific research centers and institutes.
Teaching in the first (four-year) and second (two-year) study cycles at the Department of Biology is organized through the following study programs: “teaching direction”, “biochemistry and physiology”, “ecology”, “genetics”, “microbiology”, and “environmental” monitoring and biological assessment of water quality “in the second cycle of studies. The Department of Physics implements two study programs: “Physics in Education” and “Physics”. The Department of Geography includes “teaching”, “regional and spatial planning” “tourism and environmental protection”, and the Department of Chemistry “teaching”, “general” and “quality control and environmental protection”. The Department of Mathematics has a three-year first and a two-year second cycle of studies in the following programs: “General”, “Applied Mathematics”, “Teaching (Mathematics)”, “Teaching (Mathematics and Informatics)”, “Theoretical Computer Science” and a two-year professional study “Information Technology”.
Adapting to the needs of the labor market, the Department of Mathematics launched a professional study “Information Technology” for two years. The Diploma of Information Technology Specialist, obtained upon completion of this study, qualifies the holder to work in companies and institutions that develop and use computer applications, such as software companies, insurance bureaus and banks, as well as in other companies and institutions that need IT -specialists.
The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics has invested in the future through continuous employment of young staff and it is to be expected that future generations will have the knowledge and strength to constantly upgrade the quality system to continue creating the history of this Faculty within the European and global higher education area.
