Welcome Day for Foreign Students

Dan dobrodošlice za strane studente

The University of Sarajevo International Cooperation Office, in cooperation with the University of Sarajevo member institution Vice-Deans and International Cooperation Coordinators, has opened a series of competitions for mutual mobility in the past period, which has ensured the admission of foreign students in the winter semester of the 2025/2026 academic year.

More than 50 foreign students are staying at the University of Sarajevo in the winter semester, coming from 25 partner universities from 14 countries: Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Croatia, Italy, Germany, Poland, the United States, Spain, Tajikistan, Turkey and the United Kingdom. The majority of them come through the Erasmus+ program, which continues to represent a key framework for international student mobility.

On this occasion, a Welcome Day for Foreign Students was held on 29 September in the premises of Europe House. In the introductory part of the program, the students were addressed by the UNSA Vice-Rector, Prof. Dr. Kemal Durić, and the European Union to BiH Ambassador, H.E. Luigi Soreca. The program included a short presentation about Sarajevo as the host city, introductions of the students themselves, an interactive icebreaking activity, and the “All about UNSA” session, through which they were provided with academic, administrative, and practical information about the University. The event ended with socializing and networking with refreshments. Even before their arrival, the University of Sarajevo organized the connection of foreign students with local colleagues through the Buddy Program, in order to make it easier for them to find their way in the new environment.

The second day of the program will be dedicated to the practical aspects of their stay in Sarajevo. A special session will include an interactive workshop “How to…”, where students will receive instructions on regulating a residence permit, exercising their right to free public transportation, and a presentation of the Erasmus Student Network Sarajevo, followed by a q&a session, so that students can clarify any doubts regarding their stay and studies.

International students will stay at the University of Sarajevo until the end of February 2026, when they will complete their teaching obligations. Although the final figures for incoming mobility will only be known in the annual report for 2025, which is being prepared early next year, it is already clear that the University of Sarajevo continues to be an important international stronghold and an attractive destination for students from all over the world.
