The collaborative project with Princeton University in the United States, titled “Cross-Cultural Learning through Language, Pedagogy, and Exchange” successfully realized

During the past week (8 - March 15 2025), a group of 16 students from Princeton University, accompanied by Professor Adriana Merino, visited the University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Philosophy. There, they engaged in lectures and workshops with students and professors from the Department of English Language and Literature (Prof. Dr. Nejla Kalajdžisalihović, Prof. Dr. Larisa Kasumagić-Kafedžić) and the Department of History (Dr. Melisa Forić-Plasto), addressing issues related to education in Bosnia and Herzegovina and intercultural communication competencies in the teaching of languages, culture, history, and literature.
On Monday, 10 March 2025, the students were warmly welcomed by the Vice Dean for Scientific Research, International Academic Cooperation, and Publishing, Doz. Dr. Minka Džanko, who emphasized the significance of such initiatives and projects.
As part of this endeavor, Princeton University students also visited the University of Zenica and the University of Džemal Bijedić in Mostar, where they participated in lectures and workshops focused on intercultural education and explored the cultural and historical landmarks of these cities.
The project leader, Prof. Dr. Larisa Kasumagić-Kafedžić of the Department of English Language and Literature, initiated the collaboration with Professor Adriana Merino during her stay at Cornell University, where she spent the 2022-2023 academic year as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar. Following their study visit, Professors Merino and Kasumagić-Kafedžić developed a collaborative learning and intercultural communication module for students in Sarajevo's Department of English Language and Literature in a course entitled Interculturality in English Language Teaching, as well as for students at Princeton University in a course on Cross-Cultural (Mis)communication, both of which were previously implemented remotely and have now culminated in the visit of Princeton students to the Faculty of Philosophy at the University of Sarajevo.
