The 1st Rectors Forum of the Western Balkans Starts in Novi Sad Today
The 1st Rectors Forum of the Western Balkans begins at the University of Novi Sad’s Rectorate on 24 September 2018. This two-day event under the name Science and Higher Education at the Western Balkans – Conditions and Perspectives will be attended by approx. 30 university rectors from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Macedonia, Albania, Croatia and Slovenia and a representative of the German Academy of Sciences Leopoldina.
The University of Sarajevo will be represented by Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj who will give have an introductory presentation on the topic of University Autonomy and Finance.
These meticulously prepared introductory presentations and open discussions within the Forum should provide an objective, complete and clear insight into the problems and challenges the region faces in these areas, as well as its potential and top-notch results that are often ignored or groundlessly challenged by institutions from other parts of Europe and the world.
The Forum should enable mutual knowledge exchange and creation of conditions for joint capacity building within the region by intensifying mobility, joint procurement of equipment and publications, joint scientific research and development projects, introduction of joint study programs,
A section of the Forum will be dedicated to initiatives initiated by other institutions in order to support the development of science and higher education in the Western Balkans. In this context, the words about the Berlin process and the so-called Jagel Initiative.
In honor of the First Rectors Forum, a ceremony will be held at the University of Novi Sad’s Rectorate, where young pianists from the region perform, including Lejla Nurković, UNSA Music Academy student.
