UNSA Art Days Festival at the BH National Museum
Yesterday, in the Gallery of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the second festival “UNSA Art Days,” a joint university project of the three Sarajevo Art Academies, was opened with the presentation of the exhibition "Bridges of My City" by students of the Sarajevo High School of Applied Arts.
The exhibition “Bridges of my City” is a project of high school students of Sarajevo Canton and students of the Public High School of Applied Arts Sarajevo. The exhibition was part of the event marking the Day of the City of Sarajevo, and the importance of its holding was recognized by the City Administration of the City of Sarajevo. The name of the exhibition is inspired by everyday city situations and places we move. Bridges play an important role in our lives, they connect people and are a symbol of life, love and friendship. All bridges have the same meaning, connecting two opposite sides, coasts, cultures, civilizations, people and human hearts. Sarajevo is a city of bridges, unbreakable ties, generations and times and, as Ivo Andrić wrote, “a city that decays and dies and at the same time is born and transformed, the city of our most beautiful aspirations and efforts and the boldest desires and hopes.”
Prof. Dr. Tamara Karača Beljak, Vice-Rector for Arts, Art Research and Sports UNSA pointed out that in the 73rd anniversary of the University of Sarajevo, the Academy of Arts celebrates significant anniversaries - the Academy of Fine Arts 50th, the Academy of Performing Arts 40th, and the Music Academy towards its 70th anniversary.
“Academies have a very large production. Especially in the post-Pandemic period, they started with significant activities, festivals, film production, performances, concerts, exhibitions. We launched the UNSA Art Days last year with the aim of creating a platform and in a short period of time. This brings the art from these three academies closer to the public and future students. This is a kind of promotion of enrolment, not only at art academies but also at the University of Sarajevo in general,” said Vice-Rector Karača Beljak. She also reminded that as of this year, the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina has joined the large family of the University of Sarajevo as a teaching base. “We have cooperated very well with colleagues from the National Museum before, from humanists, artists to those who come from natural sciences. Now we have formalized it so that the National Museum has officially become a teaching base of UNSA,” said Vice-Rector Karača Beljak.
Director of the High School of Applied Arts Sarajevo Mr. Sc. Elma Alić-Šobot presented the exhibition “Bridges of my City,” and emphasized that the participation of the Sarajevo High School of Applied Arts in the UNSA Art Days is a nice start to future cooperation between the University of Sarajevo and this high school.
The opening ceremony, as a kind of festival overture, was preceded by a stonemason's workshop “Bosnian style” by Dr. Adis Elias Fejzić and the Department of Sculpture of the Academy of Fine Arts, organized at the UNSA Campus. One of the mainstays of the workshop is mastering the media as an important component in the creative process. In addition to conceptual starting points, it is necessary to adopt the processes of materialization of the artistic idea, where the experiment is the most adequate method of verification of the research method.
The workshop was led by Bosnian and Australian sculptor Dr. Adis Elias Fejzić, also known as Addis, who in his research work analyses the traditional “art of Stećak” in the context of today's artistic and socio-anthropological circumstances.
The program of the first day of the festival was rounded off with the promotion of the monograph "Symphonic Music in Bosnia and Herzegovina" by Dr. Amra Bosnić, which held at the Bosniak Institute - Adil Zulfikarpašić Foundation
