The Faculty of Forestry’s Academy marked its 70th Anniversary
On the occasion of marking the 70th Anniversary of the University of Sarajevo Faculty of Forestry, the formal academy took place in the National Theater, Sarajevo held on 21 December 2018. The celebration of this important jubilee was attended by representatives of the academic community from BiH and the region, the diplomatic corps, the holders of executive and legislative functions in BiH, and business representatives.
Prof. Dr. Mirza Dautbašić, Faculty of Forestry Dean pointed out that the history of the Faculty started on 23 December 1948.
“Today we are witnessing the celebration of Faculty’s 70th Anniversary on a journey that was often bumpy. We have the good fortune and honor to inherit the seven decades of history that our senior colleagues are carefully and visionary crafted. The development was briefly interrupted, but afterwards the Faculty regained its path strengthened and got strengthened. To date, 2,229 graduates of Forestry and Horticulture Engineers, 94 Masters of Science, 233 Master of Forestry and Horticulture in the Bologna Process, 566 bachelors of forestry and horticulture and 60 doctors of science have graduated at the Faculty” said Prof. Dr. Dautbašić.
University of Sarajevo Rector, Prof. Dr. Rifat Škrijelj pointed out that in the past 70 years, the Faculty of Forestry had been giving Bosnia and Herzegovina what was the most precious - a significant number of forestry engineers who had put B&H on a map of European forests.
“This Faculty has given BiH several important professors who have made the Faculty of Forestry known worldwide and that is a great contribution by this organizational unit to the University of Sarajevo” said Prof. Dr. Škrijelj.
At the academy, “MS & WOOD” and “WOODTEAM” companies awarded the most successful students of the first and second cycle: Mehmed Čilaš, Naida Gadžo, Ismet Fazlić and Naida Ljevo.
Special University of Sarajevo Faculty of Forestry acknowledgments for the special contribution to the work and achieved results in science and education and their application in forestry and horticulture were given to Prof. Dr. Nihad Kapetanović, Faculty of Civil Engineering professor emeritus, Prof. Dr. Milan Glavaš, University of Zagreb Faculty of Forestry retired professor, Prof. Dr. Marijana Grubešić, University of Zagreb Faculty of Forestry professor and Faculty of Biotechnology, Department of Planting, University of Ljubljana.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the UNSA Faculty of Forestry’s Council chaired by Prof. Dr. Dautbašić on a beautiful acknowledgment. To all Faculty of Forestry employees, I wish further development, institution’s staffing, development of science and profession in the field of forestry and horticulture, and to celebrate the 80th Anniversary even more beautiful and stronger” stated Academician Beus.
