The Faculty of Catholic Theology hosted a panel on the media presence of religion in political topics
The event was organized on 3 March 2020 as a part of the annual program Religious Practice and Political Action, organized in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation by the Faculty of Catholic Theology, University of Sarajevo.
The audience of about 50 guests attended the event. on behalf of the host was welcomed Dr. Rev. Oliver Jurišić, KBF Philosophy Professor and Vice-Rector at the Vrhbosna Theological Seminary.
In the lecture Rev. Vajdner pointed to the stratification of the Bosnian society, which affects the different treatment of religion when it comes to political and social issues and recognizes the intention to place it in the service of daily politics. He emphasized that this is a basic feature that distinguishes the media presence of religion in the context of a given topic. “In any case, we are in the extreme: on the one hand there is objection 'What religion has to mess with politics' and on the other is 'Why are believers not contributing to politics?” stated lecturer and pointed out the reflection at the perception of religion in the media's treatment of political issues.
In concrete examples, he pointed out that the media contribute to the creation and maintenance of different “truths” and emphasized that “the presence of religion in political and social issues speaks to the media itself: is it biased and at the service of whose politics.”
